Gavin Hunt phoned Benni McCarthy for some advice
The SuperSport boss values Benni’s opinion highly, and a phone call about former Cape Town City midfielder Zukile Kewuti helped make up his mind on signing the ex-AmaZulu man.
Matsatsantsa sealed a deal for Kewuti on Tuesday, on the same day that they claimed 1-0 win over none other than Cape Town City. 27-year-old Kewut has joined on a six-month contract.
Hunt says that he called Man United first-team attack coach McCarthy, who knows Kewuti well from his time as the City boss, to get his opinion. Benni didn’t hesitate in giving Gavin Hunt his seal of approval on a “top quality” player.

Hunt on Kewuti
“Ow what a player, I love him too bits. He’s got what we need. What I like. 80% attitude, 20% ability.” Gavin Hunt joked with journalists.
“He’s got attitude, he’s got desire. He’s got the right mentality and most important thing for us he’s versatile. We need two, three players that can play two or three positions because I can’t sign two in every position. And he’s got that.
“He impressed me in no end, I spoke to Benni (McCarthy). Benni said ‘take him if you can’. He said ‘you will love him’. I said, ‘the first day I saw him I loved him’.
“And he is 27-years-old, where has he been? He was here (Cape Town City), wasn’t he? He didn’t play, he went to AmaZulu, he didn’t play. We will use him somewhere along the line that’s for sure.”
